Actisaf

The product Actisaf®Sc 47 contains the unique yeast strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae Sc 47. The additive is currently authorised for use in the EU in various animal species.

Actisaf is available in three versions: the HR+,  STD and the PWD. The HR+ product is designed to protect the yeast cells from the conditions during pelleting. For non-pelleted feed or pelleted feed where the temperature does not exceed 83°C, the STD product is recommended. Finally, the PWD product is for use in mash feed and mineral premixes.

Product storage stability
All three product forms have been tested for storage stability. The standard form was stored at 26°C; the powder form was stored at 25°C/60% relative humidity and 30°C/65% relative humidity for 12 or 18 months. The heat-resistant version of the product was also stored for 12-18 months at 25°C/60% relative humidity. All product batches were stored in the original packaging. There was essentially no loss of viability when the standard and powder form of Actisaf was stored for either 12 or 18 months. The heat-resistant Actisaf was stable for 14 months when stored at room temperature and stable for 12 months at 25°C/60% relative humidity.

Storage stability in feed and premix
Actisaf in the standard and powder forms was added to a mineral/vitamin premix and stored for nine months at 20°C. After nine months, there was no loss of viability. Actisaf in the standard form was added to piglet feed and stored for three months at 20°C. There was no loss of activity after three months.

Heat stability
The standard and the heat-resistant form of Actisaf were tested at pelleting temperatures up to 90°C. Both forms survived pelleting temperatures up to 80°C, whereas the heat-resistant version was slightly better at 85°C than the standard version.
