Product storage stability

Liquid form:
The remaining phytase activity after storing the product for 12 months at 25ºC or 40ºC, respectively, was 78% and 71%, respectively

Solid form:
Three batches of the product were kept for 18 months at either 25°C (60% RH) or 40°C (75% RH). When stored at 25°C, the residual phytase activity was 77.5% and at 40°C 28.6%.

Storage stability in premix and feed

Liquid form:
When sprayed onto feed pellets, no reduction in phytase activity could be observed after three months of storage at 25ºC or 40ºC, respectively.

Solid form:
Three batches of the product were added to a vitamin/mineral premix and stored for six months at 25°C (60% RH). After six months of storage time, the drop in phytase activity ranged from no loss at all to 14%.
Three batches of the product were added to mash feed based on maize and soya bean meal. Samples of the feed were kept for three months at 25°C (60% RH). After three months of storage, the residual phytase activity was reduced by 8 to 15%.

Heat stability

Liquid form:
Only for post-pellet application

Solid form:
Feed based on maize and soya beans supplemented with the phytase product was pelleted at 95°C. The loss of phytase activity due to the heat treatment ranged from 2 to 13%.

Homogeneity

Liquid form:
Ten subsamples of each feed used for the stability test were collected and analysed. The analytical results showed that the coefficient of variance ranged from 5.8 to 6.7%

Solid form:
Ten subsamples from two different batches of mash were supplemented with the product. The analytical results showed a coefficient of variation of 10%.

Carrier

Liquid form:
Sorbitol, sodium chloride, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and water

Solid form:
Fermentation products, sodium sulfate, polyvinyl alcohol, talc and sodium phytate

Handling
The European Commission states: "For users of the additive and premixtures in a feed business, operational procedures and appropriate organisational measures shall be established to address hazards by inhalation, dermal contact or eyes contact. Where the dermal, inhalator or eyes exposure cannot be reduced to an acceptable level by these procedures and measures, the additive and premixtures shall be used with appropriate personal protective equipment."
