Introduction
Belfeed contains beta-xylanase. The product is approved in the EU for use in weaned piglets, pigs for fattening, poultry, and ducks. It is available in dry and liquid forms.

Product storage stability
Solid form: Enzyme activity was unaffected by 13 months of storage at 25°C. When stored at 40°C for 16 weeks, the residual enzyme activity was 94%
Liquid form: Enzyme activity was unaffected by 12 months of storage at 25°C. When stored at 40°C for three weeks, the enzymatic activity was reduced to a level below 60%. A storage temperature of 4°C and a storage period of 12 months did not reduce enzyme activity.
Storage stability in premix and feed
The solid and liquid products were added to three different complete premixtures for chickens for fattening, laying hens, and pigs. After 24 weeks of storage at 25°C, enzymatic activity did not reduce.
The solid product was added to two different complete mash feeds for chickens for fattening and pigs. After 12 weeks of storage at 25°C, the residual enzymatic activity was higher than 90%
The liquid product was added to three different pelleted diets for chickens for fattening. After 12 weeks of storage at 25°C, the residual enzymatic activity was higher than 92%.
Heat stability
The solid product´s thermostability was tested at 65, 75 and 85°C. Compared with a non-pelleted feed, the recovery rate was 86%, 67% and 89%.
The liquid formulation of the product is recommended for post-pelleting application
Homogeneity
Both product forms were tested for their homogeneous mixing ability in the feed. Ten subsamples of each mash and pelleted feed supplemented with the product were analysed.
Coefficient of variance:
Solid formulation: 4.1 - 7.9%
Liquid formulation: 4.4 - 4.8%
Physical properties
The proportion of particles smaller than 10 µm is less than 4%
A dusting potential test showed that the solid formulation has an average dusting potential of 0.187 g/m3.
Package size
Solid formulation: 25 kg PE-lined multilayer paper sacks
Liquid formulation: 200 or 1000 kg containers
Handling
The European Commission states: "For users of the additive and premixtures, feed business operators shall establish operational procedures and organisational measures to address potential risks by inhalation, dermal contact or eyes contact. Where those risks cannot be eliminated or reduced to a minimum by such procedures and measures, the additive and premixtures shall be used with personal protective equipment, including eyes, skin and breathing protection."
