Storage stability Sealed bags with the product were stored for 36 months at room temperature. After 36 months of storage the recovery of carvacrol was 91%, for cinnamaldehyde 90% and for capsaicinoids 100%. Mash and pelleted feed was stored for 2.5 months. Pelleting temperature was 69°C. In mash feed 65% of the carvacrol was recovered whereas 95% was recovered in pelleted feed. For cinnemaldehyde and the capsaicinoids the similar values were 16 and 30% and 86 and 84%, respectively.
Heat stability In a study it was shown that pelleting at 66°C significantly reduced the recovery of cinnamaldehyde so that less than 20% of the initial activity could be recovered.
Physical state of product and appearance Light to dark-orange free-flowing powder. Bulk density is 0.42 - 0.52 kg/litre. Mean particle size 310.9 µm in diameter.
Distribution in feed Ten sub-samples of feed supplemented with the product were collected for the analysis of homogeneous distribition of carvacrol. The results showed a Coefficient of Variance of 4%.
