Product storage stability
Solid product:
There was no activity loss when stored for 16 months at 20°C. If the product was stored at 35°C for 16 months, 88% of the initial activity was recovered.
Liquid product:
There was no activity loss when stored for 12 months at 20°C. If the product was stored for six months at 35°C, 63% of the initial activity was recovered.
Storage stability in premix and feed
Solid product:
The stability of Danisco Xylanase in premixes and mash feed was tested at two different temperatures and for six months. After six months of storage at 20°C, nearly 85% of the initial activity in the premixture was retained. When stored at 35°C, 72% of activity was recovered. In mash feed, 94% of activity was recovered at a storage temperature of 20°C and 71% at 35°C.
Liquid product:
When the feed was stored for three months at 25°C, 93% of the initial activity was recovered.
Heat stability
98% of the initial activity was recovered when the feed was pelleted at 65-85°C. Rasmussen (2010) tested the heat stability of various xylanases at higher temperatures. It was observed that compared with 80°C the activity left was 87%, 81% and 36% at 90°C, 95°C and 100°C, respectively.
Physical properties
A dusting potential test showed that Danisco Xylanase (Solid form) has an average dusting potential of 15 mg/m3, ranging from 10 to 25 mg/m3.
Laser diffraction was used to determine the particle size distribution. The results showed a mean particle size ranging from 383 to 425 µm. The proportion of particles smaller than 100 µm and 10 µm was 13.2% and 2.14%, respectively.

Handling
The European Commission states: "For users of the additive and premixtures, feed business operators shall establish operational procedures and organisational measures to address potential risks resulting from their use. Where those risks cannot be eliminated or reduced to a minimum by such procedures and measures, the additive and premixtures shall be used with personal protective equipment, including eyes and breathing protection."
