Product storage stability
Three batches of the solid product were stored in closed containers for 24 months at 25°C or for six months at 40°C. At both temperatures, the rate of recovery was >80%. The stability of the liquid product was also tested using three different batches. Samples of the three batches were stored at either 5°C for 24 months or at 25°C for six months. At either temperature, >90% of the xylanase activity was recovered. At 25°C and six months, 80% of the glucanase could be recovered, and 65% at 5°C and 24 months.

Storage stability in premix and feed
Three batches of the product were supplemented to vitamin/mineral premixes and stored in paper bags with inside polyethylene coating for six months at 25°C. After six months,>84% of the initial xylanase activity was recovered, whereas 87% of the glucanase activity could be recovered.

The stability of the additive was also studied when the solid or the liquid product was added to the feed. The solid product was added to a mash feed and pelleted, and the liquid product was added to a pelleted feed after pelleting. Samples of the feed supplemented with solid or liquid products were collected and stored for three months at 25°C. More than 95% of the initial enzymatic activity could be recovered.

Heat stability
The stability of the solid product was tested using three batches of the product in a mash feed. The mash feed was pelleted at an unknown temperature. After pelleting, 90% of the initial xylanase activity was left, whereas 70% of the glucanase could be recovered.

Homogeneity
The capacity of the solid product to be evenly distributed in the feed was tested using the ten subsamples from the stability tests. The analyses showed that the CV was <8 %.

Physical properties
Particle size distribution was studied using laser diffraction. Eighty per cent of the particles were <100 μm, 5 % <10 μm. The dusting potential was measured at 5.07 g/m3

Carrier
Solid formulation: 88.5% corn starch; 1.5% enzyme; 10% moisture
Liquid formulation: 15% glycerol; 5% sodium chloride; 0.3% sodium benzoate; 0.15% potassium benzoate; 1.5% enzyme; water constitutes the remaining part.

Handling
The European Commission states: "For users of the additive and premixtures, feed business operators shall establish operational procedures and organisational measures to address potential risks from their use. Where those risks cannot be eliminated or reduced to a minimum by such procedures and measures, the additive and premixtures shall be used with personal protective equipment."
