Natugrain

Introduction

Natugrain contains two different enzymatic activities: xylanase and beta-glucanase. The product is authorised for use in the EU in piglets, pigs for fattening and in all major avian species.

Natugrain is available both in dry (Natugrain TS) and liquid forms (Natugrain TS L).

Production organism
Xylanase: Aspergillus niger (CBS 109.713)
Glucanase: Aspergillus niger (DSM 18404)

Product storage stability
Three batches of Natugrain TS were stored for 12  months at either 20°C or 35°C. Negligible amounts of activity were lost at 20°C, whereas 20% of the xylanase activity was lost when stored at  35°C for six months.

No losses were observed in the liquid application when stored for 12  months at either 20°C or  35°C.

Storage stability in premix and feed
No losses were observed when added to mash feed and stored for 16 months at 20°C or six months at 35°C. When added to pelleted feed, the activity was similar to mash when stored for 16  months at 20°C. If stored at 35°C, no activity was lost after ten months.

The liquid application was added to pelleted feed and stored for 16 weeks at either 20°C or 35°C. At 20°C, there was no loss, whereas at 35°C, xylanase activity decreased by 1 % and glucanase activity by 12%.

Heat stability
Pelleting at 80-85°C reduced the xylanase activity in the solid product by 12%.

The liquid product is intended for post-pelleting application

Homogeneity
Only the dry formulation was tested for its homogeneous mixing ability in the feed. The coefficient of variance was less than 9% in mash and pelleted feed.

Physical properties
The dry product's particle size distribution was analysed. The test showed that less than 10% of the particles were smaller than 150 µm, and there were no particles smaller than 75 µm.
